The Region of Attica aligns itself henceforth with the #CohesionAlliance for a strong EU cohesion policy beyond 2020. The Regional Governor of Attica, Ms Rena Dourou met with the President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), Mr Karl-Heinz Lambertz, today in Brussels, to sign the aforementioned initiative. “For almost 30 years now, since Jacques Delors founded Cohesion Policy, this is one of the main pillars of the European project. Nevertheless, this pillar is at stake today, while its future beyond 2020 is compromised by budgetary cuts. For this reason, it is the duty of us all, local and regional authorities, associations and citizens, to fight so as not just to protect but to strengthen an effective social, economic and territorial cohesion policy which needs to be at the heart of the European idea, towards a Europe of solidarity and social justice, a Europe attracting young people, protecting its citizens and creating decent jobs, in a nutshell, a Europe worthy of its citizens" said the Regional Governor of Attica, Ms Rena Dourou, adding: “As of today, the Region of Attica aligns itself with the efforts to reconstruct Europe on the basis of a strong cohesion policy”. “In these efforts to raise awareness and to provide information we all have a role to play; thus, we will invite all Municipalities of Attica to have a share in this.", concluded the Regional Governor of Attica, Ms Rena Dourou.
