In accordance with the Hellenic Government's Kallikrates plan, the Regions are established as territorially self-governed Public Legal Entities of second degree of self-government. The Regions plan and implement policies at a regional level, within their competence, according to the principles of sustainable development and social cohesion of the State, taking into account the national and European policies.
The Attica Region includes the Prefecture of Attica, has its headquarters in Athens and consists of the following Regional Divisions:
- Regional Division of Central Athens
- Regional Division of Southern Athens
- Regional Division of Northern Athens
- Regional Division of Western Athens
- Regional Division of Piraeus
- Regional Division of the Saronic Islands
- Regional Division of Western Attica
- Regional Division of Eastern Attica
